Charles Booth Centre - Building Accessibility Statement

Building Introduction:
Thringstone House, 13 The Green is a Building of Historic interest having been built well over 100 years ago and gifted to the people of the village of Thringstone and surrounding villages, by the well-known philanthropist and social reformer, Charles Booth, from whom the Centre takes its name.

The building is an outstanding venue for events boasting spectacular views, overlooking Bob's Closs and the beautiful NW Leicestershire countryside. The Centre contains five adaptable functions rooms including two bars, two kitchens, a Hall with stage and technology facilities following recent investment. In November 2021 the building was further enhanced by the addition of a mobility lift to the first-floor hall/function space.

As with most old buildings, we do have accessibility challenges. Our aim over the coming years is for the building facilities to enable anyone, regardless of ability, to participate fully in any event held here. The Centre is committed to treating people fairly by identifying and removing any unnecessary barriers to participation or progression. This will be an ongoing project for some time to come.

Building Features:
There is a ramp at the main entrance that allows wheelchair users direct access to the Centre, the downstairs bar lounge, and the Middle & End Rooms, together with the mobility Lift to the top floor. All the main routes through this part of the building are tiled floor, contract flooring or vinyl, which allows for easy mobility. All corridors are wide enough for unrestricted access throughout this part of the building. Control buttons in the lifts are at an accessible height. An Evacuation chair is on-site, should it be required. There is currently no wheelchair access from the main entrance to the downstairs kitchen or Charles Booth Lounge although this is being investigated. There is wheelchair access from the front of the farmhouse cottage to the Charles Booth Lounge and staff will happily assist with this.

Accessible Toilets:
There is a single accessible toilet within the ground floor corridor of Thringstone House. Currently the upstairs hall toilet does not have wheelchair access. This is being investigated along with access to the upstairs kitchen. Currently the mobility lift is used to take wheelchair users to the downstairs accessible toilet.
